Flapperfortunes Online Antiques Fair

Hello! Welcome to the page which will tell you all you need to know about our online antiques fair. The fair is hosted on our Facebook page, but only during our antiques fair.

What is your online antiques fair?

We have been running an antiques fair from Barkway village hall for the past four years and have wanted to branch out further by offering everyone the chance to browse and buy from our fair. So we decided to host our Barkway antiques fair online, at the same time as the fair is running. On the first Sunday of each month (from March to December) we will be running the online fair from 11am until 3.30pm by uploading photos of each stall to our Facebook page.

We have around 20 stalls with a great range of antiques, collectables and vintage items and we would like to share with the world!

How does it work?

As soon as our stallholders are set up, we take several photographs of each stall and upload them to an album on our Facebook page, with a reference code for each stall. Each stall gets an album and several intial photos, so you can tell which stall you’re looking at by the album you’re in. We aim for the photos to be available from 11am. If you’re interested in an item, you just let us know – by commenting on the photograph, messaging us on facebook, emailing us or calling – all of which will be listed on the Facebook photograph album for each stall.

If you need more information about an item – price, size, close-ups/detailed photographs, condition reports, etc. – we will get them to you as soon as possible.

If you’re local, you just pay the price the stallholder is asking for plus a small 10% fee. We currently accept payment through Paypal only – this is to cover both you and us. We regret we cannot reserve an item without payment, however, on higher priced items, we may consider taking an initial deposit through Paypal to secure the item, with cash on collection for the remainder.

If you require delivery, please ask us for a quote. We charge the exact cost for sending – this includes postage cost, packaging cost and a small handling fee towards the cost of petrol. We do not send items without the appropriate insurance. Please note we may not be able to send some items due to postal restrictions – i.e. antique thermometers which contain mercury.

Payment through paypal can either be made to the email address we give you at the time (please wait to confirm we have acknowledged your purchase), or we can invoice you to an email address you give us.

Tell me quickly, how much will it cost?

If you’re local and able to collect from Barkway during an antiques fair – you pay the cost of the item plus 10%. So if an item is £15 you pay £15 + £1.50 = £16.50

If you need the item sending – you pay the cost of the item, plus 10%, plus the postage (postage costs, packaging cost & handling fee), which will be quoted to you at the time. We only send items through services with the appropriate insurance coverage.

Why is there a fee?

The fee is to cover Paypal fees we are charged to receive your payment, as well as to help cover the running costs of the service – the time taken to photograph item, detail condition reports, arrange payment with the stall holder, package and store/ship your item etc.

How do I get in touch?

During the online fair, all the contact info you need will be on the photo albums of the participating stalls. Please only use the contact info listed, as they will be the only methods we will be checking during the fair.

For all other times, please use the contact info on the contact page.

Do I need to register?

We briefly considered registration for the service, which is why it is mentioned in some adverts, but decided it was unnecessary. You do not need a Facebook account to view or buy from our online auction – the page is public and open to everyone and there are non-Facebook contact methods available. You do, however, need a Paypal account to secure your purchase. Paypal is free to sign up to and free for you to send money to us through.

Things to note

  • We will only remove items from a stall if payment is received – we will not reduce the business of a stallholder for the possibility of a non-payer. If the stall holder is happy to do so, we will ‘hold’ the item for 10 minutes to allow you time to pay if you request it at the time of showing interest. If an item sells before you have had a chance to pay, all we can do is apologise profusely. We are offering this service as a bonus to people who cannot make the fair but unfortunately, there will be times when the service fails due to the items being available for instant purchase to people at the fair. As physical auctions that offer an online service give preference to those in the room, so must we.
  • Photographs are removed from Facebook after the fair is over. If you need a photograph for reference, please save it at the time.  We cannot guarantee that we will keep saved copies after the event is over.
  • We give a condition report at the time of selling, by paying you are agreeing that you are happy with everything mentioned in this report. Items are packaged carefully for sending, if they arrive damaged, please contact us immediately so we can post a claim with the postal service. If something has been missed in the condition report, again, please contact us immediately.
  • Please allow for delays when commenting over the internet as we will be using mobile internet. For faster response, please call or text us on the number provided on the photograph.
